A poem by Martyn Foster.
Chameleon
I blend
The ability to choose
When to be seen
And not seen
Red, gold and green
Though it is not always easy (being green)
Chameleon
A creature who survives
By adapting to the situation
Communicating in many forms
Absorbing and deflecting heat
Independent eyes
Always attentive
Chameleon
Is everywhere a home?
Or nowhere?
Belonging and not belonging
Simultaneously
Is their absence even noted?
Human analogies abundant
The Joseph of the animal world
With a coat of many colours
Someone who succeeds in many environments
Can paint with all the colours of the wind
Their Polis is the Cosmos.
Chameleon.
